The BEST Promotional Products & Why

I’m closing in on 15 years of selling custom printed advertising specialties and still lovin’ it!

Anyhow I’d like to share my thoughts on what are the best promotional items and why.  This is not a post about what I’ve got on special or need to create awareness of, rather what my no-nonsense, straight-from-thip, thoughts are and why.

INTRO – I consider the potential for advertising/exposure/brand awareness to be of the utmost importance considering what the best promotional items to carry out the mission are:

1).  3M Post-It Notes
Every desk in America has Post-It Notes.  In addition, no one ever has enough.  The pure brilliance of the invention has changed the world, let alone the opportunity to promote your company day in and day out.   Now, keep in mind, I’m not talking about the knock-offs where toe corners peel up.  😉 If you can afford the “cubes” with several hundred sheets, that’s the way to go.  Make sure each sheet has imprinting, not just the sides!

2).  Javalina (previously Javelin) Pens
Six years and still having love affairs with their owners.  Amazing, amazing, amazing is all I can say. And very, very, cost effective (I’m not supposed to use the word cheap).  I don’t sell, I take orders for these pens at a clip of over 100,000 per year.

3). Drink Coasters
Everyone has “their own” drink they sip on throughout the day.  Which leads to the conclusion that they all have “their own” preferred cup, mug, bottle koozie, koozie, what have you, but one thing is common for all – the drink eventually gets put down.   My favorite coasters are either leather or water-wicking.  Bottom line; the drink has to be put down.   Silently place your brand right in the way.  Did I ever tell you I kept the same coaster, in the same place on my desk, for 10 years?

4). Calendars
Hear me out before you say; “ The 80’s called, they want their calendar back!” I know we live in a wireless world now. I understand.  Whether at home, or at work, calendars own space – and precisely;  the exact same space year after year, after year, after year.  Old calendar expires, new one goes in right where the old one was.  There’s something about the space where the calendar(s) belong!  Nothing like driving your logo home day after day.  Side note: use the calendars where your business is advertised on each month, not on the bottom of the back page where it can be cut off.

5). Magnetic Business Cards
They work.  I’ve called the number to my local Philly cheesesteak shop a dozen times over the past 6 or 7 years.  They’ve made hundreds from me, from that magnet.  I’m not talking to those who wouldn’t “allow” a magnet on their fridge…..I’m talking to those of us who can see the advertising benefit and longevity this promotional product offers.  If it’s on the fridge, it’s a fixture in the MIND!
I wrote a whole blog post on these promotional items:
